Brad's Beard Getting Him Into Character?

By Blane Bachelor and Mike Fleeman
Friday January 08, 2010 02:30 PM EST

No, he's not auditioning to play a billy goat. Instead, perhaps Brad Pitt has been sporting his long, scraggly beard to get into character for a new movie role: that of British explorer Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett, who disappeared in the Amazon in 1925.

But there are a couple of modern-day mysteries surrounding the story, too. First, a Paramount source says the film, called The Lost City of Z, doesn't have a script yet and no date to start production has been set. In addition, Fawcett didn't have a beard, but a handlebar moustache.

"There is no film-related explanation I can give you as to why [Pitt] has the beard," the Paramount source tells PEOPLE.

If it's not for the role, perhaps the hunky-turned-hairy A-lister is just trying to keep his chin warm in the winter? Or perhaps he's using the beard to help teach his kids how to braid?

Whatever the reason, the biggest question of all is, just how long will it get?

Who knows - unless there's a script for the life story of ZZ Top secretly circulating in Hollywood. image

Brad Pitt Happy Angelina Jolie Not Up for 'Sherlock Holmes 2'

Having been linked to Professor Moriarty for the upcoming "Sherlock Holmes 2", Brad Pitt is reportedly happy girlfriend Angelina Jolie is out of the picture. PopEater has recently come out with the scoop, citing an insider as stating the actor is "very interested in taking on the role and happy they aren't considering his kick-ass partner Angelina for the part."

Of the possibility the 46-year-old coming to the "Sherlock Holmes" sequel itself, the insider said, "The director, Guy Ritchie, loves Brad. He has worked with him before and thinks he is one of the most underrated actors working today." The source further added, "Guy knows that everyone thinks of as a Pitt as a pretty boy and can't wait to turn him into the world's greatest supervillain. It will definitely make the sequel a must-see."

Brad Pitt has been linked to the role of Sherlock Holmes' arch enemy Moriarty long before Guy Ritchie's "Sherlock Holmes" was released in theaters. After several false report that Pitt will be making an appearance in the movie, The Hollywood Reporter broke out that the Academy Award-nominated actor has had discussions with producers to portray the character. No deal has been struck so far.

In the meantime, 34-year-old Angelina Jolie has a number of action movie credits in her pocket. She has portrayed heroine Lara Croft in "Lara Croft Tomb Raider" and its sequel, starred alongside Pitt in "Mr and Mrs Smith", and taken on skilled assassin character in "Wanted (2008)". Next, she will be seen as a hunted CIA officer in "Salt".

EXCLUSIVE! Brad Pitt Takes Maddox On A Boys Day Out To See 'Avatar' In 3-D In NYC!

December 28, 2009

Brad & Maddox bond at Avatar!

This sounds like a fun day! On Dec. 28, Brad Pitt, 46, took son Maddox Jolie-Pitt, 8, to an afternoon showing of
James Cameron's epic 3-D hit Avatar today at the AMC Lowes Kips Bay theater in New York City!

Brad left the other toddlers - Pax, Zahara, and Shiloh - at home so that the oldest of the brood
could see the hottest movie of the year!

Multiple sources tell HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that the boys had a ball, playing in the theater's video game arcade area
before heading into the movie. Avatar is rated PG-13, but we trust Brad's judgment as a dad … even if we don't trust his judgment in
facial hair. -

Brad Pitt In A 'Sherlock Holmes' Sequel? Guy Ritchie, Cast Weigh In

Brad Pitt and Robert Downey Jr. going head-to-head onscreen. That's a tantalizing cinematic throwdown, which explains why even the possibility of such a face-off — in a sequel to a film that has not even opened yet — has been churning through the rumor mill. If Downey's "Sherlock Holmes" becomes a box-office hit following its Christmas Day opening, could we eventually see the actor's Holmes joined in a sequel by Brad Pitt as the wily detective's nemesis James Moriarty?

That's been the gossip for months. In August there were rumors that Pitt was on the "Holmes" set, and The Hollywood Reporter dished in September that the A-lister was in discussions to take on the role. And now we know — spoiler alert! — that Moriarty does in fact pop up in "Holmes," albeit swathed in shadows and with a voice not recognizably Pitt's. So when MTV News had a chance to chat with director Guy Ritchie and his cast, we had to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Had Ritchie talked with Pitt about playing Moriarty? "I can't tell you that," the director said, glancing a bit nervously at his publicist. "Maybe Moriarty will surface again .... I'm not allowed to say anything."

Why be so tight-lipped about something that is not even a possibility? His answers will only fuel the Pitt-as-Moriarty fire. "I'm a big fan of Brad and I'd love to work with Brad," said Ritchie, who directed Pitt in 2000's "Snatch." "Everything he's done, I'm a big fan of."

When we put the Pitt questions to Downey, the actor declined to answer or speculate. "We're not the casting directors and [Moriarty's] kept purposely out of the narrative in the story and, should we be fortunate enough to go forward again, then we'll probably make casting announcements and that stuff."

"Holmes" star Mark Strong was a little more forthcoming in our interview, saying he never saw Pitt on set, but that Pitt and Ritchie have a strong creative bond. "I never met [Pitt], but I know that Guy and he are friends, obviously, because they've worked together and I know they'd love to get someone of his caliber to play a character of the depth and weight of Moriarty. I know they've probably talked about it."

Rachel McAdams' character, Irene Adler, actually interacts with the mysterious Moriarty in the film. Did the actress perform alongside Pitt?

"No Brad Pitt sightings," McAdams said with a laugh, adding sometimes she wasn't even on camera with another actor. "I was just talking to a dark void.

Brad No.21 out of Top 49 2009 Most Influential Men
http://www.askmen.com/specials/2009_top_49/brad-pitt-21.html
Brad Pitt offered further proof in 2009 that he has eclipsed his former costar, Tom Cruise, as the most popular movie star on the planet with a fervent following of men and women. His reverse-aging epic, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,
grossed over $300 million worldwide, showing that the star was as
ageless as ever. It also got him an Academy Award nomination for Best
Actor. Naturally, his companion, Angelina Jolie, was nominated for Best Actress for Changeling, solidifying their status as Hollywood's reigning power couple.

In 2009, Brad Pitt teamed up with Quentin Tarantino for the first time in the brutal war drama, Inglourious Basterds,
in which he led a troupe of Jewish-American soldiers on a mission of
revenge against the Nazis. In Lt. Aldo Raine, Brad Pitt brought to life
another memorable and charismatic character to stand alongside Tyler
Durden (Fight Club), Jeffrey Goines (Twelve Monkeys) and Benjamin Button (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button),
showing once again that he is both a talented actor and a timeless
screen star. Brad Pitt hopes to provide more of the same with Sean Penn in The Tree of Life, to be released this holiday season.

Brad Pitt: Sex With Angelina Jolie is a Trade Secret

Brad Pitt kept it short and sweet (but hilarious) during an interview with German magazine BILD, which seems to have been conducted back in May in France. Check out the highlights:
BILD: Do you believe in God?
Brad Pitt (smiling)
: “No, no, no!”
BILD: Is your soul spiritual?
Brad Pitt
: “No,
no, no! I’m probably 20% atheist and 80% agnostic. I don’t think anyone
really knows. You’ll either find out or not when you get there, until
then there’s no point thinking about it.
BILD: Are you scared of aging?
Brad Pitt (smirking
): The grey hairs on his beard glisten: “No I like it. I think it’s good.”
BILD: Angelina told me once about your giant bed where all eight of you snuggle up?
Brad Pitt
:
“Yes we have a 3 metre wide bed, but even that isn’t big enough. They
all come crawling in in the morning. It’s just about surviving! We all
have sleep deprivation.”
BILD: Do you find the time to make love?
Brad Pitt (looks puzzled)
: What?
BILD: Is it sometimes just the two of you?
Brad Pitt
: “Yes we make time for ourselves. It’s very important for every relationship.”
BILD: How? Do you fly off somewhere?
Brad Pitt
: “That’s a trade secret!”
BILD: Your answers are very short and quick.
Brad Pitt (beaming)
: “Ha! I’m a father of six. You have to be quick and focused.”

Brad Pitt: Hard Hat Hottie

Brad Pitt visits the future site of the Oscar Niemeyer International Cultural Centre on Monday (August 31) in Aviles, Spain.
According to Agence France-Presse, local officials hope the centre will revive Aviles the way the opening of the Frank Gehry-designed
Guggenheim museum helped transform the Basque city of Bilbao from a
rusty industrial backwater into a cultural capital over a decade ago.
